SB 2303 (Good Samaritan Act -
First Aid) Passed both houses and signed by
the Governor
This legislation provides that any person
who is certified in first aid by the American Red Cross
or the American Heart Association, who in good faith provides
medical care without fee to any person shall not, as a result
of his or her acts or omissions, except willful and wanton
misconduct on the part of the person, in providing the care,
be liable to a person to whom such care is provided for
civil damages. This legislation indemnifies those in our
schools properly certified, especially in regard to the
new AED mandate.
SB 2898 (Administer Allergy
Medicine) Passed both houses and signed by the
Governor Amends the School Code. In provisions that require
a public or nonpublic school to permit the self-administration
of medication by a pupil with asthma, adds the requirement
that the school also permit the self-administration of medication
by a pupil with allergies. Effective immediately.
SB 3016 (Sex Offender Registration)
Passed both houses and signed by the Governor Amends
the Sex Offender Registration Act. Requires that the information
submitted by the sex offender at the time of registration
shall include whether the victim and the sex offender knew
each other at the time of the commission of the offense,
county of conviction, license plate numbers for every vehicle
registered in the name of the sex offender, and any distinguishing
marks located on the body of the sex offender. Requires
sex offenders who were required to register annually to
register every 90 days. Amends the Sex Offender and Child
Murderer Community Notification Law. Provides that the Department
of State Police must make the information contained in the
Statewide Sex Offender Database searchable by a 5-mile radius
from the sex offender's home or school attended. Requires
a principal or teacher of a public or private elementary
or secondary school to notify the parents of children attending
the school during school registration or during parent-teacher
conferences that information about sex offenders is available
to the public as provided in the Act. NOTE
